Hydrostatic buoyant force
Formula & notes

Fvz = ρ · g · V

Fvz = hydrostatic buoyant force,

ρ = fluid density,

V = volume of the displaced fluid (of the submerged part of the body),

g = gravitational acceleration ≈ 9.81 m/s².

What is it?

A body submerged in a fluid is buoyed up by a hydrostatic buoyant force whose magnitude equals the weight of the fluid displaced by the submerged part of the body.

The body is acted on by the gravitational force FG vertically downward and, once it is submerged in a fluid, also by the hydrostatic buoyant force Fvz vertically upward.
